Save to Registry - what is the exact path?

Post by paul1965 »

I have another familiar issue with the slideshows getting moved around to different monitors, this time because I have a new TV. Apparently the new Samsungs send out the EDID info every time the TV is turned back on, and it's causing Windows to see a new monitor arrangement just about every time. One workaround could be to install 4 EDID emulators, but I was thinking it might be easier if I could edit each slide show, then save it to the registry where I could then edit the name so it's unique, assuming I know the exact path and that they would then show up in the screensaver selection modal. I could the set up UltraMon to always run the same .scr file on the appropriate monitor. Any feedback on if that would work? Or would this approach be no different than assigning a monitor ID to each slideshow using GPS?

NOTE: I do have each one set to run using the custom layout option. But that still fails to retain their position after power cycling the TV.

Hello,
then save it to the registry where I could then edit the name so it's unique, assuming I know the exact path and that they would then show up in the screensaver selection modal
I don't understand what you think to do by editing the settings, you will not find monitor names there. gPhotoShow asks windows to enumerate all connected monitors every time it starts, then optionally it can order them by position.
The screen saver has a single settings, even if you use UltraMon you can't run multiple instances of gPhotoShow with different settings.

Anyway gPhotoShow Pro keeps screen saver settings in the following path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\GPGSoftware\gPhotoShow

I would be looking for the .scr name, not a monitor name. If I edit a slideshow and select "Save to Registry", that same slideshow is over written when I edit the next one and also save it to the registry. That's why I thought that if I could edit the registry and give each of them a unique name, I could then use UltraMon to assign the appropriate monitor.

But now looking at that path, there's no .scr stored there so I guess it doesn't matter.

The path above contains gPhotoShow Pro settings.
There's no such thing as a .scr name. The .scr name is gPhotoShow Pro. Windows stores the screen saver name elsewhere, but what you'll find is the executable name: gPhotoShow64.scr
and obviously you can't change it
