When I use the mouse or keyboard to wake the computer from screensaver mode, it has a very noticeable lag and will sometimes lock up the computer. Is there a fix for this?

that could happen if you configured gPhotoShow to load pictures from a slow media (USB drive, network) because picture loading operation can't be interrupted and if it takes a long time you experience a lag when closing the program.
Another thing that could cause that issue is another program running and taking all cpu time, screen savers always run at the lowest priority and if another programs takes all cpu time the screen saver may have long lags.
