Screensaver slideshow conflict with Chromecast

Post by gunterotto »

At family gatherings, much to everyone's delight, I often put a slideshow on to our family room TV to revisit old memories. I create a (rather large) slideshow screensaver (.gss) of photos and screensavers using gPhotoShow Pro with Transitions set to "enable all", which is what makes the app so much better than others I've tried.

The slideshows have worked fine until now. This could be a new gPhotoshow bug, or it may be due to a change in the OS or drivers. Since Oct, when all was good, I have updated Windows 11 to 24H2 and Edge/Chrome have updated often. (They are all current now.) I have also updated gPhotoShow Pro to the latest 9.0.13 64-bit GL.

Chromecast from my PC to my Hisense Android TV works fine, on both Edge and Chrome which appear to use the same code/UI. But when I load the .gss file the screensaver will stutter and go blank between slides. The slides on TV are not always in sync with the PC, and transitions do not show at all. Again, if I exit the slideshow, the TV screen will mirror all PC changes without a problem. For that reason, I attribute this problem to gPhotoShow Pro. I wanted to try rolling back to the previous version, because all worked two months ago, but that is not possible?

Hello,
gPhotoShow is not aware of chromecast or any other system to send the screen to a remote device. It works on the local screen using the OpenGL (GL version) or DirectX 9 (DX version)
Since version 9 was released there have been no changes to the rendering code so it is very unlikely that gPhotoShow is the cause of the issue and in any case previous versions are not available
If you are using the GL version try the DX version, it uses the old DirectX 9 and usually it has a wider compatibility

I installed the DirectX 9 version and it solved the problem. I shall try the GL version again when there have been system/app updates.
Thanks for the quick response!
