Stopped working with Win 11 Upgrade
Stopped working with Win 11 Upgrade
gphotoshow will show the first image, then immediately upon loading the second image will freeze and throw up an error code, however I never get to see what the error code is because what I actually see is just a frozen screensaver image, and when I hit ESC to clear it, I see the error code box for like 0.25-sec before I get taken to the Windows LOG IN screen. This started the moment I upgraded from Win 10 to 11. Any ideas how to fix this? I should also mention that when I go to SCREEN SAVER SETTINGS in Windows, gPhotoShow Pro 8 64-bit is selected, and I can PREVIEW it without any problems for as long as I like, so it only freezes up when it is suppose to take effect normally.
Re: Stopped working with Win 11 Upgrade
Hello,
to know the error reported by gPhotoShow open gPhotoShow Pro settings, go to errors and loggins page, click on "Open errors file"
Anyway it would be better to tick the option to enable extended error logging the run gPhotoShow again and get the extended error log.
Are you using gPhotoShow as a normal screen saver or a logon screen saver ?
In the first case it should run without problems, in the second one (logon screen saver) it is possible there are issues since the screen saver runs under a very limited user account.

Re: Stopped working with Win 11 Upgrade
All the recent errors say the same thing:
I just enabled "extended logging". I also just upgraded gPhotoShow Pro from v8 to v9. Hopefully that helps.
Re: Screen Saver, I click Settings, type Screen Saver, and make sure it says "gPhotoShow Pro" in the dropdown menu. Below that, it says "WAIT: 15-minutes" and there is a checkmark that says, "On resumes, display logon screen". Is that considered a login screen saver and if so, how do I work around that?

Re: Stopped working with Win 11 Upgrade
It's a weird exception, without any info. Hard to say what is causing it. Maybe with an extended log it is possible to see something more.

Re: Stopped working with Win 11 Upgrade
Just FYI, for whatever reason, downloading the newest version fixed the issue. The SS no longer freezes up, and no more errors either.
Re: Stopped working with Win 11 Upgrade
Yo, it broke AGAIN! The settings are NOT saving! I load up gPhotoShow Pro 9 64-bit, change all the settings and SAVE it TO FILE and TO REGISTRY. It works... until a system reboot at which point all my settings are now GONE and I have to LOAD them again. Why are the settings not automatically saving and loading each time gPhotoShow Pro loads the screensaver after a reboot?
Re: Stopped working with Win 11 Upgrade
When used as screen saver gPhotoShow keeps its settings in the system registry. You must either use the screen saver settings or use the function "Save to registry". Settings are saved to the user branch of the registry, if you change user or something happens to that branch of the registry settings are lost.
Settings are saved here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\GPGSoftware\gPhotoShow

Re: Stopped working with Win 11 Upgrade
I hear what you are saying, but in this case, that is NOT happening. I have WIN 11 if that matters. The initial errors have started back up again with gPhotoShow Pro freezing up after a few images. When I load back up gPhotoShow Pro to ascertain what went wrong, all settings are erased and I have to manually "load" my saved profile... even though I already have it saved in the registry...gpb wrote: Thu Dec 05, 2024 9:26 am When used as screen saver gPhotoShow keeps its settings in the system registry. I now have the extended logs. Here they are: https://1drv.ms/t/c/4d6d4b48968133ba/Ee ... A?e=vTHvQM
The error references a dump file so here is that file also: https://1drv.ms/u/c/4d6d4b48968133ba/ET ... g?e=Po5tOF
Re: Stopped working with Win 11 Upgrade
Thanks for the log and dmp file.
Unfortunately the crash in inside libdirect3d11_plugin, a component of VLC and I can't do anything about it. This is confirmed by the log file, gPhotoShow crashed while playing a video file.
It could be the file itself or it could be a problem with VLC or the display adapter drivers.
Anyway this issue can't erase the settings from the registry. If the settings are not saved in the registry there is some kind of problem with your system, or at least the user branch of the registry.

Re: Stopped working with Win 11 Upgrade
Interesting. It was frozen again when I checked just now. Here are some observations:
1. Whenever I select "preview" rather in the gPhotoShow Pro GUI or Windows Screen Saver, the slideshow will continue for hours and hours without freezing up.
2. But when I let gPhotoShow naturally engage the screen-saver in real-time, I almost always get those errors.
3. In the ancient past when I first started using gPhotoShow, it would ALWAYS freeze up when displaying ANY video files. Back then, I set up gPhotoShow to use VLC and everything worked fine. So, this time around, after gPhotoShow kept freezing up and after my post, I switched the player back to VLC. Apparently, when I downloaded the latest version, it reset all my saved settings which is why I had to set it to VLC again. So anyway, when the SS kicks in, I always find it frozen on a single image and usually, the RIGHT monitor (I have two) is always BLACK, nothing displayed on it at all.
Everything was working just fine before installing Windows 11. I didn't change any settings. Then I got the latest version of gPhotoShowPro, and same problems. Anyways, I just tested several videos with VLC and VLC is working correctly! All my videos are MP3 and nothing else, and they all show full data in terms of name, date, type, size, and length so its pretty unlikely anything is corrupted in the videos themselves. And also I wonder why the PREVIEW works without issue? All this leads me to believe the problem is more likely to be how gPhotoShow initiates through the Screen Saver using Windows 11, maybe some security setting? I appreciate all of your help so far, and I am sorry my computer is having so much issues with your program since I installed Windows 11!
