From gPhotoShow point of view there is no difference when running from the Preview button or running as screen saver, the code is the same and it does the same things.
There are however differences in the environment, when a program is started as a screen saver it runs in its own desktop separate from the other running programs. There may be other minor differences but I am not aware of them.
Unfortunately I cannot know why VLC in one case works without problems and in the other crashes.
Since the crash occurs in the DirectX libraries it may depend on the graphics card drivers or some other component of the system.

I finally figured out what (I think) is going on! The link to gPhotoShow is not on my desktop, so at the bottom bar, I type gphoto but when I selected "screen saver", it took me to Windows "Screen Saver Settings", so I clicked on "Settings" in that window and it brought up the OLD gPhotoShow GUI which has OLD settings which could potentially bug it. Apparently, when gPhotoShow updated, it left the old GUI and settings. You devs should really have the program completely delete and remove the old program as part of an update! I don't even know how to remove the old GUI because in Add/Remove Programs, only the newest version shows up, and in Screen Saver, only the older GUI shows up as an option. Do I have to do a complete uninstall to fix this problem?!?

I should mention AGAIN that when I run "Preview" from the NEW GUI, I have zero issues and no freezes and VLC works just fine, so I am 100% certain what I wrote above is in fact the issue!

I am sorry but I don't understand what do you mean with "new gui" or "old gui".
gPhotoShow Pro has only one GUI, there no old gui with old settings. In the screen shot you posted gPhotoShow Pro settings is the window on the right, the windows on the left labeled "Screen saver settings" is a component of window.

Hi, I will edit this comment and post screen shots when I get home from work. When I load gPhotoShow Pro from the .exe, there are options immediately at the bottom of the GUI to LOAD (or SAVE) the current settings from the Registry, or a file. Also in the newer version, I need to load the settings from the file or registry each and every time or nothing loads. In the older GUI, those LOAD/SAVE settings are not shown on the bottom of the GUI and can only be reached through a different method, and my settings automatically load, unlike the new GUI. My only conclusion is when the new version installs, it does not remove all of the old components, namely the old GUI. The old version is the one Windows retains, so when you select gPhotoShow Pro as your screen saver in Windows, you get the old GUI with the old saved settings, instead of loaded from a file or registry as it should. This is my best guess what is happening.

It's not a matter of new or old GUI or components not uninstalled
gPhotoShow Pro has two functions. It can be used as screen saver and as slideshow maker.
When started as Slideshow Maker its main window has two additional buttons "Save" and "Load". These buttons allows you to save/load settings from files on disk but these files are not used by the screen saver. Screen saver has its own settings so it doesn't need Save/Load buttons. gPhotoShow detects when it starts as screen saver and doesn't display Save/Load buttons.

This is gPhotoShow when started as Screen Saver:

Okay, so question, does Screensaver use different settings then slideshow? If so, this make actually be my issue. I may need to go into "screen saver" saved file settings and change some things.

Why I ask is, and the whole reason I noticed the different versions at all, was Screen Saver automatically loaded some settings, not certain from where, while with SlideShow, I need to load them up again each time I boot the program, but due to Screen Saver freezing on videos, I always load up SlideShow, load my Registry settings, and hit Preview and its good to go. I'll check the Screen Saver location and video settings in a bit. That's most likely the problem then.

The screen saver has its settings saved to a predefined location.
Slideshow maker can load and save settings where you wish.
In any case the settings available are the same and the program is the same. If gPhotoShow freezes when playing video the only solution is to disable video files.
gPhotoShow play video files using either Media Player or VLC. Sometimes the integration between different programs is not perfect and things go wrong or maybe there is some issue with video files or the player itself. Unfortunately there is no solution.

No this is not correct.

"gPhotoShow Slide Show" works flawlessly. When it loads up, I have to hit LOAD on the bottom of the GUI to Load my settings. Then I hit PREVIEW on the bottom GUI and it displays images and videos without any issues whatsoever. No freeze. Videos play just fine!

"Configure gPhotoShow", when you go to PREVIEW from the WINDOWS SCREEN SAVER SETTINGS... AND "Start gPhotoShow", they both freeze whenever any video is displayed. Period.

I hear what you're saying about VLC and windows when ran from SCREEN SAVER. I hear what you are saying, that its somehow due to Windows Screen Savers interaction with VLC player. Okay, I get it. I don't understand why this occurs, but I get it. I was hoping I had discovered a reasonable solution to the issue, but apparently it is not an solution at all, but a different splash screen on the GUI when you run "gPhotoShow Slide Show" versus "Configure gPhotoShow". They may look the same cosmetically, but are inherently different mechanically speaking. This is a shame. I hope your team can eventually find a solution to this problem. Take care.
