Flickering on Windows 11

Post by russ8585 »

I've been using Wallpaper Slideshow Pro on Windows 10 for a few years with no issues. My setup is the following:
  • 3x 4K monitors all showing a single image for the wallpaper.
  • 1x 1080p monitor showing a slideshow.
My setup allows me to use the 3 4K monitors as I wish, with the 1080p used exclusively as a "photo frame" (slideshow).

I have since moved over to Windows 11 with the same setup.
There is a noticeable flicker or jitter across the 3 4K screens whenever the 1080p screen changes photos. My slideshow changes every 2mins, so this is very annoying. The transition between photos is also jittery. I used to get a smooth crossfade effect. I have Smooth wallpaper change ticked in the settings.

I've also noticed my PC fans speed up every time my slideshow changes. This never happened on Windows 10.

Hello,
it's a known issue with Windows 11 24H2. Install Wallpaper Slideshow Pro v5.2.5, it will fix the issue.

Do you have any other program that updates the desktop ? If you are 100% sure there are no programs updating the windows background then there is something with windows or the display adapter drivers that causes the flickering.
Wallpaper Slideshow is wallpaper changer, it doesn't update the desktop is just builds the image and uses the windows functions to set it as background. The transition is performed by windows, Wallpaper Slideshow has no control over it. In addition consider that there is no way to change the background on a single monitor, every time that WallpaperSS changes background on a monitor it builds a wallpaper for the whole desktop and uses windows functions to change it.
On thing that you could try is to un-tick the option for Smooth wallpaper change, (Settings-Options window) then restart the computer. It may work for some time but then it is possible Windows enables again the transition and you will have the same problem.
