the question doesn't make sense, if you use Wallpaper Slideshow the desktop background will be turned on

Wallpaper Slideshow Pro is a wallpaper changer, it changes the desktop background but the wallpaper (=desktop background) is displayed by windows. This means that even if WallpaperSS is not running the wallpaper is always displayed and that it is not possible to turn off desktop background image.

I am having trouble getting pics to fit screen correctly, they fill the screen and some look good but some are squished and look funny. I resized all of them to the recomended resolution for the screen. I have tried different settings in the Position option but can't get them all to look right. Please advise.
Thank you for any help on this matter

The best thing is to leave the position set as "Auto resize" or "Auto fit" and then in Options->Auto Resize set the way WallpaperSS should resize and adapt images.

Auto Resize : image is adapted to the screen according to the settings in the "Auto Resize" section of the Options window
Auto Fit: image is always stretched/cropped according to "Auto Resize" settings. As opposed to "Auto resize" this option always stretches/crops images without considering the aspect ratio. This option never displays black bars around images.
