Is there a practical limit to how many images/videos ?

Post by AngelicInterface »

Hi again.

Is there a practical limit to how many jpgs can be included in a screensaver?
I am planning to have between 1200 and 2000 images.
I am worried that on a slow machine gPhotoshow may run out of memory
or spend too much time cataloging the images?
Total size of the install package is still well under a gig, maybe closer to 500mg.

Likewise - if the screensaver was made entirely of short videos
would there be a size limit here?

Does the answer depend to some extent on the specs of the hardware it runs on?
I guess if it does I could advise people of the reccomended ram etc.

Thanks ~ DV

Hello,
the only limit is file size. It must be less than 4Gb.
by modern standards the program uses little memory, the images are loaded from disk and only the current one is stored in memory.
It is very unlikely that a computer with even 4GB will not be able to run gPhotoShow
I am running it on a mini-pc using a Intel Celeron N4020, I got reports from some users that runs gPhotoShow on mini-pc-stick with Intel Atom x5-Z8350
The only drawback on these PCs is video playback which may stutter. Full-HD video resolution is better.
