Monitor turns off, doesn't turn on

Post by kb100 »

Hello,

I'm using the MonitorOnOff plugin on Windows 11. It turns the monitor off correctly, but never turns it back on.

Any ideas?

Hello,
are you using gPhotoShow as screen saver ? In this case it will never be able to turn on monitor because when the monitor is turned off by power management windows (10 or 11 is the same) kills then screen saver so gPhotoShow will never have a chance to turn on monitor again
Try using the "System Standby" it should work

I tried using "System Standby", and it now puts the computer into standby mode, but still doesn't wake up.

I did enable "Allow wake timers" in power options. Anything else to check?

Thanks,

Note: it *does* seem to work if I don't run it as a screen saver.

Thanks!

I just did a quick test, windows also kills the screen saver when the system goes into standby, you can verify this by enabling extended log, at the end of the log you will see something like this:
8-5-2023 17:35:4 :T : [MonitorOnOff Plugin]: Setting Wake-up Event to 8-5-2023 17:40:0 (local time)
8-5-2023 17:35:4 :T : [MonitorOnOff Plugin]: Wake-up Event set to 8-5-2023 15:40:0 UTC time
8-5-2023 17:35:4 :T : [MonitorOnOff Plugin]: Before calling SetSuspendState(FALSE,TRUE,FALSE)

maybe another line or two and nothing more. This means gPhotoShow was killed by Windows.
Only solution I know is to avoid running gPhotoShow as screen saver and run it as slideshow
