Another video question/issue

Post by paul1965 »

I'm trying to troubleshoot whether GPS is having an issue playing a certain video or not. Is there any logging I can enable to see if there is an error? Basically what is happening is that most videos play fine, but every now and then GPS will act like it's going to play one, but then the screen just goes blank and the screensaver restarts itself. I've checked a handful of the videos manually, they all play with Media Player (and others) just fine. I've also re-encoded them from .wmv to .avi and had to issues doing so.

Hello,
you can enable error loggin in the About page of the settings window. Error log file contains lots of information but you can simply search "error" or "exception", the file is reset every time gPhotoShow starts

I don't see anything that says "error" or "exception", but the two times it's happened since I enabled logging I see this:

I thought it might be related to an outdated video card driver, but after updating it, it happened again.

D3DERR_DEVICELOST is not really an error, it is something that can happen for example when powering off monitors. gPhotoShow is programmed to recover this situation. In any case is not related to video playing.

Looks like this was an issue with the PS as it was dead this morning and wouldn't power back on. I swapped in another PS and will see what happens. Thanks for the prompt responses.

I was finally able to figure out the issue. Somehow, I managed to set GPS as the system screensaver while I was still manually launching it using a .gss file. Both were set to playback videos, so I think they were conflicting with each other at certain times. Disabling the system screensaver seems to have fixed everything and screensaver/video playback now works as expected.
